San Francisco, on April 9, 2008, is the only city in North America that will host the 2008 Beijing Olympics torch relay.
This is a unique opportunity to join Darfur activist leaders to communicate in person to Chinese government officials that it must use its relationship with Sudan to end the genocide in Darfur. This could be the most important and impactful event for Darfur in the U.S. this year!
The more of us who line the relay route in a respectful and peaceful manner on Wednesday, April 9 in San Francisco, the more powerful the message will be.
Extinguish the Flames of Genocide in Darfur!

We expect few problems in lining a part of the Relay route with our respectful presence and placards that you can get in April 4th's Friday Chronicle or at the gathering point (to be announced on website).

I think it would be appropriate to mention Chinas involvement with the ethnic cleansing of Tibet, as well, and their support of Burma.

The US has a history of boycotting the Olympics. Last time, it was to protest the invasion of Afghanistan-- oh irony!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980_Summer_Olympics_boycott
Also, there is a larger context in which your actions operate to support Bush Administration goals. That in itself might be worth a 'rethink':

If they do it too was an excuse, Hitler would be off the hook for calling all those people because Stalin had done it first.
Nothing in history excuses China's genocide of the Tibetan people.
Nothing in history excuses China's genocide of the Tibetan people.
Are you saying we've got "another Hitler" on our hands?

"Nothing in history excuses China's genocide of the Tibetan people."
No, that would be true.... if that were happening. But is it? Or is it contrary to fact?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocides_in_history#Tibet
Or worse yet, does it depend on one's point of view...

Ahh-- "Chinese" imperialism.
Do you mean, like this?

Or more like this?

Meanwhile, of course, "resistance" wouldn't ever look anything like this, right?

Right?

G'head, go look, there's certainly stuff there you can cite back. Just don't let this part escape your notice, when ya do:
Quote:
The Guardian reported that according to a foreign eyewitness account, rioters attacked Han, Muslim Hui and other ethnic minorities.[24] Foreigners were not attacked.[24] With the exception of Tibetan-owned hotels, many other hotels were vandalized and smashed.[24] The foreign eyewitness also reported seeing three rioters repeatedly stabbing an unconscious man.[24] After the Monday deadline, Chinese police announced on loudspeakers that anyone who took part in the violence and gave themselves up would be treated with leniency.[25]
[...]
Other Western tourists emerged from Tibet with graphic descriptions of the level of violence that had occurred. Some claimed that they had seen Chinese people, including the elderly, being beaten and stoned to death by groups of Tibetans, supported by the crowd.[28][29]
End quote.
But don't panic! There are points of unity with contemporary American culture, in it all:
Quote:
According to the London-based Free Tibet Campaign, an eyewitness inside Lhasa saw rioters set a mosque on fire late on Friday night and throw stones at what appeared to be Hui.[26][27]
End quote.
Meanwhile, all those flags and sound trucks look expensive. How do the Tibetan separatists pay for it all, being dispossessed as they are?
