NOTE: This is a KEY moment for community organizations who have been
fighting Chevron's DIRTY CRUDE refinery expansion for the long haul
and been strong allies for the anti-war and global justice movements.
THEY NEED OUR SUPPORT AND A LOUD SHOW OF STRENGTH TONIGHT! This is
where the rubber hits the road in challenging the corporate Chevron
and big oil--whether around their drive to war and occupation, their
creation of climate chaos or their poisoning of kids and all of us in
the Bay Area
To be clear, the planning commission is rigged pro-Chevron and we need
to make it politically expensive when/if they rubber stamp this deadly
project. The majority pro-Chevron Richmond City Council has blocked
every City Planning appointment by Green Richmond Mayor Gail
McLaughlin (the mayor appoints Planning Commission members) and has
changed the term limits so the old Planning Commission members can
serve for life! As a result there are now only 4 Planning Commission
members and 5 vacancies on the 9 member Commission! Please come when
and for as long as you can and urge your friends to join us!
Community Demands:
þ No Increase In pollution! Reduce Current Pollution Levels!
þ Environmental justice, worker justice and right to know are a must!
þ Chevron's expansion must provide a meaningful public review
process, including considering alternatives to refining dirtier crude!
þ Recirculation of the EIR! Suspend the approval process until
there is full disclosure of changes in crude oil stock & its impacts!
We are encouraging all residents of Richmond and surrounding
communities (Bay Area-wide) to make testimony at this hearing. Please
demand that the Planning Commission suspend the process, recirculate
the Final EIR (environmental impact report) as it is missing emissions
data and does not disclose the true scope of this project.
Additionally, let them know that you don't want any dirtier crude
refined in Richmond.
