Catalina Ventura: The Empowerment of Oaxacan Indigenous Women
Thursday, April 10, 4pm
Stevenson College, Fireside Lounge
Catalina Ventura is a Mixtec woman originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, who migrated to the United States as a young girl of twelve years old. She immediately began working in the fields in and around Fresno, California and suffered many injustices there. She then became active in the Frente Indigena de Organizaciones Binacionales (FIOB, Binational Front of Indigenous Organizations). Ms. Ventura will be sharing with us her organizing activities with indigenous women in the San Joaquin, in particular her work on health and safety concerns.
For more information or accommodations, contact UCSC Center for Labor Studies, Dana Frank (dlfrank [at] ucsc.edu/831-459-2542) or Karin Mak (ktmak [at] ucsc.edu/ 626-840-5408).
