Location Details:

Attend this rally of the Uhuru Solidarity Movement, under the leadership of the African working class-led Uhuru Movement to discuss Oakland Mayor Ronald Dellums' plan for more police officers on the streets of Oakland, a military solution to an economic problem. We will present a history of Oakland from the Black Power Movement to the current reality of drugs, gentrification, poverty and oppression.
In Oakland, one in five families live on $15,000 a year or less. Communities in East and West Oakland that have been stripped of any viable ability to make a living. The U.S. imposed illegal drug economy creates enormous profits for those on top while impoverished Africans are forced into a penny-ante drug trade and face death or prison. The answer is not more militarized police but genuine economic development – massive infusions of capital equal to what goes into the white communities.
Find out about the campaigns of the Uhuru Movement and how you can take part in supporting positive change in Oakland and the world.
