Indybay Urgently Needs Your Financial Support Now
INDYBAY NEEDS TO RAISE $5000 in order to continue operating.
Indybay has expenses that amount to several hundred dollars every month for hosting this website. Indybay also has other smaller expenses that relate to outreach and having a mailbox. It's been over a year since Indybay last had a fundraising drive and now we need to ask for donations again to cover our costs into the foreseeable future. We'll be happy to end this drive as soon as we reach our goal. Please donate now so we can end it soon.Donation progress toward $5000 since March 1st: |

Indybay.org is maintained by all-volunteer collectives and our costs are miniscule in comparison with the service that the website provides to the Bay Area, Santa Cruz, and Northern California activist communities.
Please DONATE NOW! And consider becoming a Friend of Indybay to help us secure our financing into the future.
Happy birthday Indybay!
Born on March 23, 2000, Indybay.org has hosted eight years of radical, independent media from the S.F. Bay Area. All posts, photos, videos, and audio hosted in that time are archived here for your continued use. Indybay has also been the home of Santa Cruz Indymedia since January 2006 and currently hosts Bolivia Indymedia, Paraguay Indymedia and is helping out San Diego. [Indymedia and Indybay History]
Indybay Is Grassroots Media at Its Finest
The SF Bay Area and Santa Cruz Independent Media Centers are grassroots organizations truly committed to using media production and distribution as a tool to promote social and economic justice. The IMCs are a cooperative effort of hundreds of independent journalists and media activists. We are neither owned nor funded by big conglomerates or advertisers — that's why we urgently need your support now to sustain our efforts!
Indybay's popularity adds to our bandwidth expenses. Over the last two years, for example, Indybay has consistently served tens of thousands of page views each and every day, sometimes reaching as high as 150,000 page views a day. Site visitors are currently uploading and downloading thousands of gigabytes of news reports, photos, audio, and video every month.
If you are one of the many who find the coverage on Indybay to be a useful part of your socially conscious life, we ask that you make a small donation of just $20-40. Every little bit you can give will help us maintain this website. If you are a heavy user and visit the site daily or even several times a week, please consider a medium-sized donation of $40-60. If you regularly publish to the newswire, especially posting larger media files, you can help us continue to be a great open-publishing resource by making a more sizable donation of your choice right now.
Limited Fundraising Drives
We have not made a major request for donations in over a year but now we must ask again that fans of this site contribute what they can to keep us going. As our expenses are relatively low in comparison with the service that the website provides, we are hoping that we can sustain the website with just one or two fundraising drives per year in order to minimize intrusions into your use of the site. If enough people choose to become "Friends of Indybay" we may not even need to do that many.
This fundraising drive will end the minute we reach our goal. Please DONATE NOW! And consider becoming a Friend of Indybay to help us secure our financing into the future.

I could volunteer to help raise money-- just need to know how.
... than a dancing Cheney or some other such annoying gif. I am much more motivated to give with this icon (seriously.) Thank you for getting the word out.

I just helped another group raise $9,000 last month (mostly via online messages), and one thing that we made sure to do was to give our "target audience" regular updates about how we were doing with meeting our goal. We initially tried to raise the entire $9,000 within just one week, so we therefore gave daily updates. At the end of the week, we were a bit over halfway there, so we then came up with a "Plan B", publicized that, and continued to give daily updates. The result was that we were able to raise the full $9,000 before the end of the 2nd week.
I have no idea by what date you want to raise the $5,000, but I strongly recommend that you update the "bar graph" regularly, and that you also update your fundraising message at least every 7 to 10 days. (And maybe every 5 days or so if you want to raise all of the money within less than a month!).
For the record, the current "bar graph" now shows $210 on the evening of Tuesday, March 11 (and I think it's been at least 3 or more days since the graph has shown any movement!)....

The graph is updated every 5 minutes, although you may need to click reload to force your browser to actually update. We make heavy use of Expires and Cache-Control HTTP headers to keep our bandwidth costs down ;)
I'm new to the North Coast area in Mendocino County, but I'm a devoted Indybay member-how about a North Coast fundraiser? I'm happy to help in anyway. I've helped organize benefits for indybay in the past. But I'm not plugged into the Indybay users/community up here. I'm happy to help!
