CodePINK hosts "Appreciation Banquet" in honor of Berkeley Peace-Loving Community! Tuesday, February 26th, noon-4p.m. at the MRS (Marine Recruiting Station)

CodePINK: Women for Peace will recognize the Peace-Loving People of Berkeley – especially Berkeley High Youth – who so courageously and determinedly came out last Tuesday to stand for peace and in support of our Council and against the pro-war forces invading our city.

Berkeleyans and the Council alike are warmly invited to come celebrate with CodePINK and Medea Benjamin at our “Appreciation Banquet” being held in honor of our Community, and those Seven Council Members who stood strong against the aggressive pro-war forces!

The Appreciation Banquet will celebrate our stands, honor ourselves and each other, and re-commit to ENDING WAR NOW! And SHUTTING DOWN the MRS NOW!

Food catered by People’s Café, music, dancing, Hadley Louden & Drummers for Peace, pink badges of courage, the 7 Council guests of honor, surprise celebrities, success stories from the front lines!

Another exciting How Berkeley Can U Be afternoon in front of the MRS!

Feel free to bring drinks (no alcohol), dish, or dessert to share, musical instruments! Your story from the front lines! Or just BE THERE!

How Berkeley Can You Be is a parade, mostly of art cars, that happens every year. It includes very few political groups and I think it shouldn't be associated with CodePink. It'll probably just confuse people.

It was a small gathering, and there was no food. The City Council couldn't make it, and the only Berkeley High Students who were there between 11:30 and 12:30 were a small loyal bunch of kids who support the presence of the USMC Officer Selection Office in Shattuck Square. There were also other Berkeley residents on both sides of the issue, and until about 1:00 there was no amplified sound.

Due to the pleasant weather and the pleasant (though hungry) company, there was some thoughtful discussion among people who do not agree on most issues. In my opinion this is the best possible use of this bully pulpit.
