The East Bay Express newspaper, the East Bay’s flagship alternative weekly newspaper, is once again independent and locally owned. In celebration, we invite you to join the Express staff in celebrating our independence at a charity fundraiser on February 20 at Maxwell's Lounge, at 341 13th Street in Oakland.
The party, “Express Our Independence” will benefit few charities, and include a silent auction, cash bar, and food. Groove to local sounds by DJ Kool Kyle and more. The event will unveil the East Bay Express Foundation, a nonprofit committed to local issues. The party is from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with a $5 minimum donation.
“The East Bay community has reason to celebrate. After several years of corporate ownership, we’re bringing the paper back to its local roots and intend to be an authentic voice in our community,” says owner/partner Hal Brody.
The new Express is will also showcase its new design, including many additional features added to the paper as of our February 20 publication redesign. Here is a preview of just some of our new features:
• Guest editorials
• Reader-submitted art
• Local opinions and rants
• A weekly news roundup
• A new column profiling people with interesting ideas
• A weekly subculture column
• Improved art gallery listings
• Regular religion listings
• Weekly sports picks
• Government and civic meeting listings
• Expanded restaurant listings
• A weekly clubs directory,
• Reorganized music listings, broken down into “Live Music” and “DJ/Dance/Karaoke” sections
• Children’s music listings,
• All-ages music listings
• More editorial content in the Classifieds section.
The East Bay Express is raising money for few organizations including La Peña Cultural Center, Creative Growth and Global Initiative to Advance Entrepreneurship (GIVE).
Thank you for your continued support of locally owned media.
