On the heels of an historic Berkeley City Council meeting where the Council reaffirmed its opposition to the Marine Recruiting Station in their city, CODEPINK Women for Peace will host a "Make Out Not War Kiss-In" in front of the Recruiting Center on Valentine's Day.
The "kiss-in"--based on the old Berkeley tradition of "Make Love Not War"--will provide a positive, loving counterpoint to the death and destruction of the military. Young and old alike will gather to kiss, give out free hugs to passersby (after all, arms are for hugging!), sing love songs, and make Valentine's Day cards to thank the City Council and other peacemakers in the community.
"To meet their quotas, recruiters are forced to sell lies to young people because they need them as cannon fodder in Iraq. We say 'Don't enlist, stay and Kiss! That way everyone makes out,'" says CODEPINK organizer Rae Abileah.
