Rally to Stop Unsafe Trucks from Mexico

Broken Promises, Broken Borders — now Broken Trucks

Trucks from Mexico aren't as safe as ours. Border Inspection stations are overwhelmed. Congress passed law after law requiring proof that a cross-border pilot program wouldn't affect safety. But the Bush administration doesn't care!

Tell the public that Bush's cross-border trucking program is illegal and dangerous! Join the Teamsters for a rally on February 12 in front of the appellate court.

§Oppose this chauvinist, protectionist rally!
by Aaron Aarons
If Mexican trucks are really so unsafe, U.S. Teamsters should be working with people in Mexico to make them safer! After all, Mexicans are in much more danger from such allegedly unsafe Mexican trucks than are people in the U.S.!

It's clear that the motivation of the Teamsters is to protect the jobs of their members from Mexican competition. In other words, their aim -- and the aim of all union-backed protectionism -- is to protect U.S. workers from the consequences of imperialist-imposed inequality while doing nothing to fight that inequality.

When the Teamsters are ready to ally with Mexican workers against both Mexican and U.S. capitalists in a struggle that benefits especially those on the lower levels of the international labor hierarchy, then it will be time to support them.
