by Puppets for Peace!!
Chico Peace and Justice Center begins (2/9/08) their puppet making workshops that will take place every Saturday thereafter in preparation for the 5th anniversary of the U.S. invasion and ongoing occupation of Iraq. Themes include positive alternatives to U.S. militarism (peace machine), the Jolly Green Giant and sweatshop workers who are shackled by NAFTA/WTO "free" trade policies, and other alternatives to U.S. foreign policy decisions that harm people and the environment..
PUPPET-MAKING WORKSHOP
Saturday, February 9th at 9am-3pm
Drive-by Gallery (117 West 7th Street, Chico)
Local puppeteers will help us begin creating GIANT (10-15 feet tall!) puppets in preparation for the fifth anniversary of the war in Iraq in March (see below for more information about the anniversary). The theme for the puppets and the anniversary is "Alternative Uses for a Trillion War Dollars". At the workshop, you will learn some of the principles of puppet making, then set to work making such puppets as the Alternative Uncle Sam, the Jolly Green Ecological Giant, the Peace Machine (as opposed to the "war machine", and Humvees for Peace.
There is no charge for the workshop, but space is limited. Please call the Chico Peace and Justice Center to reserve a space. 530-893-9078
CALL TO ACTION - Help Plan the 5th Anniversary of the Iraq War
Monday, February 11th at 7pm
Chico Peace and Justice Center
Join the planning for the 5th anniversary of the war in Iraq. The theme of the day will be "Alternative Uses for a Trillion War Dollars". We will feature a funeral procession to remember those soldiers and Iraqi civilians that have lost their lives. We will also look to the future and, through puppets, we will manifest the vision for a more peaceful world. We would like for this to be a community effort as we imagine a world where public schools are fully funded, all children have health insurance, our environment is clean, etc.
For more information or questions, please contact the center at 893-9078.
