Protesters Visit Obama office in Oakland on Primary Day
On May 5, approximately twelve protesters entered the campaign office of Barack Obama to issue anti-war demands.

Approximately twelve protesters entered the campaign office of Barack Obama on February 5, just two hours before the poles closed. The protesters, from a group called Direct Action to Stop the War (DASW) issued a set of demands to the staff of the campaign headquarters, saying that “no democratic candidate should take the peace community’s support for granted.”
The protesters were met with hostility upon entering the office, with several of the staff members shouting at them and threatening to call the police. “This is private property and if you don’t leave, you will all be arrested,” one said with her cell phone to her ear.
The protesters gave the campaign headquarters a list of ten demands that included that Obama "publicly oppose the use of military force against Iran or Pakistan" and that he "oppose the opening of another front in the "war on terror." The list also included full funding of the reconstruction of Iraq, the cessation of any funding for the war other than troop withdrawal, the repeal of the Military Commission Act, and the immediate release and reparations of detainees held in Guantanamo, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
Tensions rose for approximately five minutes until the protesters agreed to step outside the office to discuss their demands with one of the staff members. “Our candidate wants to include everyone’s concerns in his presidency,” she said and assured the protesters that their demands "would be communicated."
“If any candidate does not guarantee the withdraw all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan," one protester told the staff member, "you can expect a lot more actions like this on a much larger scale,” he said.
The police did not appear on the scene and no arrests were made.

Good job. While I voted for Gravel, just having Obama vs. McCain will be so much better than McCain v. Clinton for many reasons. With Obama, the rest of the world will realize that U.S. citizens aren't so misintentioned, even if he ends up being compromised and corrupted later. But we still need the mindset of keeping up the pressure on him. So many people have false memories of how good things supposedly were under Clinton. There were bombing runs in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kenya under Clinton. In interviews, Hillary Clinton barely remembers that there was a controversy about NAFTA, even though this has caused such suffering in Mexico, and she definitely doesn't favor modifying it.
It isn't surprising that the police didn't show up. On the east bay bicycle list I'm subscribed to, some people keep reporting being attacked or having weapons brandished on the bike route in North Oakland, and then they hide in some bushes somewhere calling the police on the cell phone, and they never come. This has been the case where the car keeps circling the neighborhood or repeatedly trying to attack them for fun.

Obama should be held accountable for continuing to support funding for the Iraq occupation.
This action is excellent and inspiring. Neither Clinton or Obama are peace candidates and they should have to earn our votes.
The peace institutions (MoveOn, Peace Action) could also decide to stop allowing the Democratic Party to take the peace movement for granted and could ACTUALLY work for peace instead.

Making demands sounds sort of warlike. Just IMHO.
I thought it funny that there are photos of Obama's people but none of the protesters.
I don't quite understand the reason for a demo at someone's campaign headquarters.
Why not protest McCain's headquarters? He wants to be at war forever!

Everytime I see someone with an "Obama" shirt on, all I see is a "I want to kill 100% innocent Pakistanis" shirt.
A poster above wonders why you dont attack Mccain instead. Here's why:
I lived in SF during the entire Clinton administration. You remember those days right? ONE AND A HALF MILLION IRAQIS KILLED DUE TO SANCTIONS plus ILLEGAL, AGGRESSIVE, RADIOACTIVE WAR ON YUGOSLAVIA.
Now, do you remember the HUGE protests against Clinton in SF during that time? No? That's because there were no big demonstrations against Clinton in SF.
Meanwhile, the largest estimate of Iraqis deaths due to Bush is 600,000.
Fucking liberals murder MORE than conservatives and you people protest LESS.
Each and every one of you that supports Obama is a war monger who want to attack Pakistan. Each and every one of you that supports Hillary is a war monger that wants to attack Iran.
Of course, you'll deny it when the time comes. But some of us will remember, and I for one am not gonna let you fucking scumbags forget it either.
Having marched with DAW in the past, it felt a wee bit ironic standing on the other side of the picket at ObamaSF. Call me crazy, but it makes the most sense to me to support the most receptive, viable presidential candidate (Obama) and, once that candidate is elected, to petition and conduct direct actions to bring about change. Trying to disrupt the campaign of the most receptive, viable candidate on election night is nihilistic; alienating your supporters is just plain nutty.
FWIW, of the six demands printed in your post (it's difficult to find the list on the DAW website). more than half (four or five, depending) have been incorporated into Obama's platform since last year.
