AFSCME's contract with the university is expiring on January 31st and the support of all students is needed for this picket and the ongoing struggle of the workers on campus so that they can win the contract they deserve. The UC is not taking the union seriously at the bargaining table, so now it is time to show them that we are serious.
WHAT AFSCME IS FIGHTING FOR
* Wage increases to bring our pay up to the market standard (Cabrillo workers get paid at least $5/hour more than UCSC workers of the same category)
* Annual automatic movement to the next pay step (Cabrillo workers reach their maximum pay within a few years while a UCSC worker can work over 25 years and never reach their max pay)
* $15/hour statewide minimum wage for all UC workers (Full-time UC workers should not be in poverty)
* $16/hour statewide minimum wage for all UC classifications which usually have a certification or license
* No paycuts for healthcare and pension (we want stable healthcare and pensions for our families and our futures)
* DIGNITY!!!
