Campus Blitzes Push Voter Registration on Eve of California Deadline
What: On the eve of California’s voter registration deadline, student leaders at the UCSC campus are organizing a last minute voter registration push. The effort is part of the California Public Interest Research Group’s (CALPIRG’s) New Voters Project, which will register and mobilize thousands of students around the California February 5th primary.
Today and tomorrow students at the UCSC campus will organize a ‘blitz’ to register students on the campus quad, outside their dining halls, and in their dorms. Leaders across the state will also plaster campuses with fliers, use Facebook, organize partnerships with student governments, and hold other visibility efforts on campus to maximize registration.
Where: UCSC Campus, Quarry Plaza (outside the Bay Tree Bookstore) and Dining Halls and Dorms across campus
When: Tuesday, January 22nd (9am- 5pm in Quarry Plaza, 5pm-8pm at dining halls and dorms across campus)
Visuals: Students wearing “I Vote” t-shirts stopping students on their way to class to register to vote, a Vote banner, a cardboard cut-out of Arnold Schwarzenegger wearing a vote t-shirt, and big signs that say deadline to register.
