How About an Impeachment Truth Movement?

Too many people are thinking about impeachment as an act aimed at removing the president. And it's true, that is one aspect of the impeachment process. But that's putting the cart before the horse. The most important reason to impeach is to open up hearings-- hearings that Bush is not allowed to claim presidential privilege to block subpoenas.

Dealing with the most secretive white house admin in history, it is certain that most congressionial hearings will be impeded to great extreme. We've already seen this over and over again.
The Whitehouse, Bush and Cheney are hiding from and blocking the truth on so many fronts.
We know that when aggressive hearings on any subject are held, concrete results are produced. Look at the Gonzales hearings. They worked to get rid of Gonzales and to cast much more light on attorneygate. I don't think it is a coincidence that Pete Domenici is not running for senate again. He's another victim of the hearings, or should I say, "positive result?"
Congressional hearings are the THE answer to exposing corruption, fraud and criminal and treasonous acts.
There's one problem. Bushco can block too many of the subpoenas.
Fortunately, there's a solution.
Holding impeachment hearings.
Before the congress actually acts to impeach, it holds hearings. There is one difference between usual hearings and impeachment hearings. Presidential privelege to refuse to allow testimony is not allowed.
You heard that right. The president cannot block witnesses from testifying when the hearings are about impeachment.
I'm not sure if an impeachment hearing for the vice president precludes the president from blocking testimony. But if Bush tries to do it, that would be excellent reason to include Bush in the impeachment hearings also.
There shouldn't be a hurry to vote on impeaching Bush or Cheney. There SHOULD be a hurry to start holding impeachment hearings. Before the house of representatives actually holds a vote on impeachment, it must hold hearings. This is where the findings come out. This is where we learn in detail about the abuses, the crimes, the treason that we suspect occurred.
There are so many ongoing congressional hearings that are being blocked by the Bush administration. How many of them would be opened wide if they were held in coordination with impeachment hearings? The answer is-- a whole lot.
This is a different way of thinking about impeachment-- as a process, not an outcome. The process is the aspect of impeachment that is most important in healing America. It is the process that will clearly, step-by-step, reveal the abuses and crimes, the lies and deceptions. As I've been saying for over a year (Nov. 13, 2006 Ultimately, Republicans Will Force Bush/Cheney Resignation,) hearings will start with lower level workers. They will turn over higher level power brokers who will, ultimately, to protect themselves, testify against those at the top of committed the worst offenses.
Ultimately, I believe that congress will never even have to hold an impeachment vote. Cheney, once evidence appears, will resign "for medical reasons, with a note for his doctor. The Democrats WILL have to approve a VP replacement, proposed by Bush. The Republicans will make sure Bush does not appoint an intolerable one. And Bush will not appoint a presidential candidate. He'll appoint a senior statesman, perhaps John Warner or James Baker, or even his father, George Herbert Walker Bush. Or he may go for an appointment that will give him a place in history that is positive-- by appointing a woman, a black or a Latino.
Next , as I wrote, over a year ago, the Republicans will take "THE WALK" to the Whitehouse, just as they did with Dick Nixon, and demand that Bush resign. No vote, just an exit on a helicopter.
Expect Derision, Followed by Massive Coverage
At the beginning, this impeachment process will absolutely be mocked and attacked, at first, by the right wing echo chamber. But so were the Gonzales hearings. But at the same time, the media will be watching closely. Actually, the MSM will love it when the hearings start. Once the first juicy disclosures come out, they will go ballistic on them. Once the newest witnesses are identified, they will run their pictures at ultra high "rotation," showing them repeatedly.
When impeachment activists call for impeachment, we need to be clear that we are not calling for a quick vote. We are calling for impeachment to uncover the truth. We are calling on hearings to identify and diagnose all the dangers and threats, all the destructive actions and conspiracies the Bush/Cheney administration has subject the US, its constitution and governance to.
That is what we cannot afford to wait 13 months for.
We have to wonder why Nancy Pelosi and her supporters and enablers are so anxious to prevent the impeachment process to be used as a tool to uncover the truth. They say they don't want to waste time, or be kept away from getting other work done. This is dishonest. The congress held hearings on Dick Nixon and also continued to do all it needed to do back in the seventies, according to former congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman, author of, The Impeachment of George W. Bush: A Practical Guide for Concerned Citizens , who played a part of the Nixon impeachment hearings. Yet this excuse is the talking point that most of the Dem members of the house use as their explanation on why they won't begin impeachment.
I believe that holding hearings will open up so many ugly, disgusting disclosures of abuses of power and law violations that they will, if Republicans oppose them, if they don't respond to them with calls for resignation by the exposed officials, lead to massive losses by right wing candidates, even more devastating than already predicted. Impeachment hearings will help the Democrats. Failing to impeach could dramatially weaken democratic campaign efforts, perhaps even yield a backlash against democrats.
Oh, by the way, the term "Impeachment Truth" is a meme inspired by 9/11 Truth. There is every reason to believe that impeachment hearings could be used to open up blocked passages to getting answers abou 9/11. I would think that 9/11 Truthers would jump on this bandwagon enthusiastically. Then, we already have the Kucinich people on board. But what about Ron Paul supporters? Why aren't they, why isn't Ron Paul clamoring for the truths impeachment hearings could bring? Ron Paul is a truthy kind of guy. Maybe he needs to be asked-- by the tens of thousands of supporters who have contributed to his campaign. A bi-partisan support for impeachment hearings would be a good step forward.
Impeachment Truth. Say it out loud.
Impeachment truth hearings.
They're what the constitution needs, what democracy needs and maybe the only thing that can truly save America.
The energy for impeachment is building. Here's an article that tells what you can do TODAY.
And if you have objections to the idea of impeachment, read this;

I screwed up on the poll. It should have been Absofuckinglutely NOT.

The Democrats oppose impeachment proceedings because they fear success. They are afraid of replacing Bush with a successful Republican president before the elections thus creating a formidable Republican contender for the presidency in 2008. It is the Presidential hopefuls who would be most against impeachment and who are neglecting their congressional duties even now as they campaign instead of governing. The Dems are putting their own political aspirations before the good of the country and the duties they pledged before God. They are sacrificing what is right as American citizens and the world look on. The lust for power supersedes all. I thought that was the Republican mantra. We cannot tolerate even another 12 months of this situation. It is never too late to do what is right and the political consequences be damned. Doing what is right might even have positive results for Democratic goals.
