Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz Roots of Resistance: A History of Land Tenure in New Mexico
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tuesday, December 4 7:30
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Indigenous and Mexican farming communities have a long history of adapting and preserving their democratic social and economic institutions in New Mexico, despite losing control of their land to capitalist entrepreneurs and becoming part of a low-wage labor force. In the revised paperback, Dunbar-Ortiz applies the lessons of this history to recent conflicts in New Mexico over ownership and use of land for control of minerals, timber, and water.
