Buy Nothing Ride in Emerville Goes Without Incident
A video of the Buy Nothing Ride
The buy nothing ride through emeryville was successful, the police were blocking streets to prevent the ride from looping around bay street, but we did get to ride through bay street at least once and pass out fliers that talked about the status of bay street as an Indian shellmound. when heading back towards bay street, the sun was setting and cops stopped the ride and threatened to issue citations for not having lights, only one person received a ticket (who at that point was not attached to the ride)
We will be planning more rides much like this one for emeryville and it's status a a shopping hub for the east bay.

That last statement is misleading. I was attached to the ride. There were people who were both in front of me and behind me that were stopped, but not ticketed. It was because I was part of the ride that I was stopped because at the time I was standing on the sidewalk, for the rest of the ride to catch up. I don't know why I was singled out, but I was definitely part of the ride. Furthermore, as I was harassed by police, I don't think that the ride can be said to have occurred "without incident". From my point of view, the Emeryville Police deliberately tried to stop the ride, which they were successful at doing.
i more meant "without incident" as no body was detained and no one got ran over. but in retrospect i guess you are right.
