Although they are only breath, words which I command are immortal. ~Sappho
Sappho and The Muses are calling us to celebrate inspiration! Barbara Walker writes in The Women’s Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets “Priestess of Lesbos, the “isle of women” dedicated to the Goddess. Once married, mother of a daughter, Cleis, she devoted her later life to the love of women. She was called the Tenth Muse and was revered even above Homer, but only fragments of her work remain because her books were later burned.” The Muses, “ninefold Goddess as the source of ‘in-spiration’, literally breathing in ‘I-deas’ or Goddess-spirits within.”
We will be sharing what inspires us and, moving into the ritual, have the opportunity to share our talents. Please bring a piece to share: this could be a poem, article, story that you wrote or read that inspires you, a dance, a song, a comedy routine, anything you can dream up. As always, your level of participation is entirely up to you, but you are invited to expand your own boundaries by sharing in this way with your Sisters in sacred space. Feel free to try something new! (If you need more than five minutes for your piece, please let us know ahead of time.)
For the altar, please bring a white or yellow candle as well as any symbols of inspiration, or tools that you use to express your talents. Please feel free to dress in any way that supports your sharing!
We will also create a spell for personal and global inspiration that you will bring home with you. If you wish to participate in this spell, please bring an additional candle to the altar for blessing.
Daughters of the Goddess is a Dianic womyn-only Goddess Temple dedicated to honoring Multicultural Goddesses through rituals and celebrating ceremonies of Womyn's Mysteries in the Spirit of Aloha. We generally have two rituals a month and are always looking for new womyn who feel the call of the Goddess. For more information, ritual calendar and newsletter check out our website
