Weekly ANSWER Activist Meeting
Venezuela: Constitutional Reform & U.S. Intervention
Venezuela is set to vote on Sunday, Dec. 2 on a series of constitutional reforms that include a six-hour workday, the empowering of communal councils, government takeover of the Central Bank, and an end to term limits. All of the 96 proposed reforms are characterized by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez as part of advancing to a new, socialist society. In response, big business, students from the upper classes, and some military officer—all backed by Washington—are creating violent clashes with the government and pro-Chavez popular forces, seeking a new coup to overthrow the government. Learn more about what is happening in Venezuela today, and why we should support the Chavez government and the mass movement of the Venezuelan people fighting for justice.
