Indigenous Autonomy and Resistance: A Report from Chiapas and the Indigenous Encuentro in Sonora
Wednesday, December 5, 2007 - 7:30 PM
La Pena Cultural Center
3105 Shattuck Avenue
Berkeley
As Mexico reels from poverty and drug violence, the Zapatistas are constructing another world in Chiapas, a world of autonomy, direct democracy and collective work for the good of all. Members of a delegation just back from Chiapas got an inside look into those aspects of Zapatismo and will share their experiences. Several went on to Sonora where they had an opportunity to observe and film the Continental Indigenous Encuentro. Their report will feature:
* Report from the Chiapas Support Committee’s medical delegation to Chiapas
* Music by Musica Humana Blues: Arnoldo Garcia, Andrew Kong Knight and Jose Palafox
* Video from Continental Indigenous Encuentro in Vicam, Sonora, Mexico
Wheelchair Accessible
Near Ashby BART
Requested Donation $7-$10 (Sliding Scale)
Proceeds Benefit Zapatista Autonomous Health Care in San Manuel
Sponsored by the Chiapas Support Committee
