(San Francisco, CA 94110)

L's is in the mission district, between Florida & Bryant, next to the Galeria de la Raza.

"Phase One", the Youth Encuentro Project's first fund-raising event, will be a night of artesania auctions & raffle to the sounds of Son Jarocho, spoken word, open mic, and other expressions of resistance. Suggested entry donation is $5, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

The Youth Encuentro Project is a San Francisco State University-recognized organization comprised of a coalition of high school and college students working to fortify our communities and explore how best to resist the institutional pressures that result in many young persons more easily finding themselves in a prison cell than a college classroom. The Youth Encuentro Project includes college students working in Downtown High School classrooms twice a week, students' increased activity within their communities, and this winter's trips to Chiapas, MX for an indigenous women's struggles encuentro, and Hidalgo, MX, for a youth conference. In visiting various communities of resistance students will be afforded the opportunity to exchange strategies for building self-empowered, self-directing communities. We hope that the fund-raiser will facilitate these goals, especially for those students whose families cannot easily finance such a trip. In addition to items for the raffle and auction, we are also accepting monetary donations. Checks
can be made out to the "Youth Encuentro Project", and paypal payments sent to "youthencuentro [at] gmail.com".
