Berkeley Central Library, 2090 Kittredge at Shattuck
In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love, Richie Unterberger will present two hours of rare rock film clips of some of the greatest musicians of the era on Tuesday, November 6th, from 6:30pm-9:00pm at the downtown branch of the Berkeley public library at 2090 Kittredge Street. All clips are from 1967, or just before or after that year.
This is the same program presented at the Park Branch of the San Francisco Library in Haight-Ashbury in August (and different from the program presented in October at that branch), reprised to make it easier to attend for East Bay residents who could not make the August presentation.
Included will be footage of Jefferson Airplane; the Grateful Dead; Big Brother & the Holding Company, with Janis Joplin; Pink Floyd, with Syd Barrett; the Beatles; the Rolling Stones; the Doors; Donovan; Jimi Hendrix; Sly & the Family Stone; Simon & Garfunkel; the Move; the Rascals; and numerous other celebrated (and less celebrated) icons of the psychedelic age.
The event will take place in the library's community meeting room, on the third floor. Admission is free. For those taking public transportation, the downtown Berkeley BART station is two blocks from the library.
