Upground & La Muñeca y Los Muertos
Saturday November 10, 2007
$10 adv. $12 dr. - 9pm
Upground (East LA)
Upground is the young vibrant East L.A. band that has developed a huge following throughout the Southwest in the four short years they have been performing live. Their music is an indefinable blend of Ska, reggae, rock, and CUMBIA! They recently released their debut full length CD called “Feel the Vibe” which received widespread critical acclaim. Upground has come a long way from the high school jazz band and orchestras where its members started. They have performed or shared the same stage with artists from Ozomatli and Los Lobos to The Killers, and played at universities throughout the West. They have transformed into one of the most sought after young bands in the competitive Los Angeles music scene.
La Muñeca y Los Muertos (SF)
Blend one part ska with one part punk, add a Latina twist and a splash of eye candy, and you have got yourself the tasty alternative cocktail otherwise known as La Muñeca Y Los Muertos. Guitarist/vocalist Muñeca Osorio leads the groove, along with other Bay Area denizens David Simon-Baker on lead guitar and backing vocals, Kristin Lo Bianco on bass, Nick Lee on trombone, Anthony Chavez on trumpet and Matt Cohen on drums. With original music written and composed by Osorio and other band members, the band puts on an energetic show exploring themes such as awareness, positive perspective, and realizing full human potential. The music even provides a sliver of education, songs are written in both English and Spanish.
