Saree Makdisi will present a powerful argument on the inevitability of the one state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Nephew of the late Edward Said, Makdisi is a Professor of English and Comparative Literature at UCLA and a frequent contributor to major newspapers such as the San Francisco Chronicle and Los Angeles Times, as well as The Nation and the London Review of Books. He is also an author of numerous scholarly articles and books on British Romanticism, including Romantic Imperialism: Universal Empire and the Culture of Modernity and William Blake and the Impossible History of the 1790s. His latest book is Palestine Inside Out: An Everyday Occupation, forthcoming from Norton in May of 2008.
