Marxism is one of the most powerful intellectual, cultural and social forces of our time, transforming the intellectual, political and economic landscape of entire countries, peoples and continents. The key motor for the liberation of oppressed people all over the world, a powerful intellectual and moral force for change and the flame-keeper of a vision for a better society, Marxism brings a penetrating insight and powerful critique of society while laying out the foundations for a democratic, equitable and just society. The goal of this three class series is to introduce the main concepts of Marxism to those who are interested. We will demonstrate the tools Marxism brings to illuminate and understand political, social and cultural phenoma, including the current excesses and crises facing the world today. We will also show how Marxism unravels the workings of societal dissatisfaction, political oppression, and human alienation and suffering. We will also show the Marxist vision of a better society, and what the process of achieving that might look like. This class will be collectively taught by a diverse team of scholars, activists, organizers and artists, representing a wide spectrum of marxist viewpoints and approaches. The class will be highly interactive, experiential and stimulating. Participants will step away from this course with a clearer understanding of themselves, the world, and how to transform it. The class aims to leave you feeling clearer, smarter, more hopeful and inspired.
