Artist-activists The Nonsense Company (of Madison, WI), bring two nationally-performed, urgent pieces of political art to the San Francisco Fringe Festival.
"Great Hymn of Thanksgiving" takes place around a dinner table, which itself becomes an instrument as mealtime conversation is replaced with news clips from Iraq, fragmented folk tales, and a recurring state of emergency pointing everywhere and leading nowhere.
In "Conversation Storm," a play based partially on Alfred McCoy's A Question of Torture, three friends from three sides of the political spectrum dissect current U.S. torture policies, revising and even brutalizing their own positions in the process--but time has either stopped or entered an ugly loop, and as the friends assign and reassign roles, the scenario begins to dissolve the boundaries between real and hypothetical, past and future, day and night.
WARNING: Highly violent adult language--no-one under 13, please.
No late seating.
