Army of None: Strategies to Counter Military Recruitment, End War, and Build a Better Worl

On Tuesday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m., there will be an Activists' Roundtable Discussion entitled “Army of None: Strategies to Counter Military Recruitment, End War, and Build a Better World” at the Community Media Center in Palo Alto.

The panelists will include:
David Solnit – Anti-war, global justice and arts activist, main coordinator for 1999 WTO protests in Seattle and 2003 protests in San Francisco the day after Iraq was invaded.
Aimee Allison – Army veteran, community counter-recruitment coordinator.
Paul George - Director, Peninsula Peace and Justice Center
and the live studio audience.

Uniformed U.S. Army Officers lunch with students in elementary school cafeterias. Army training programs including rifle and pistol instruction replace physical education in middle schools. Like never before, military recruiters are entering the halls of U.S. schools with unchecked access in an attempt to bolster a military in crisis. Today, the counter recruitment movement has become one of the most practical ways to tangibly resist U.S. policy that cuts funding for education and social programs while promoting war and occupation.
