Soldiers of Conscience: A Benefit Preview of an Unreleased Film

Filmmakers Gary Weimberg and Catherine Ryan capture the conflicts over killing some US soldiers experience. From West Point grads to drill sergeants, from Abu Ghraib interrogators to low-ranking reservist-mechanics, virtually every soldier wrestles with his conscience over this issue. This film reveals that far more soldiers refuse to kill than is typically believed or portrayed. The fact that only 25% of soldiers in WWI fired their weapons influenced military training so that now the number of soldiers who fire their weapons is over 90%. Despite this training, some soldiers make the decision to stop killing.

Made with the official permission of the US Army and filmed in state-of-the-art HD video, Soldiers of Conscience includes never-before-seen footage of basic training and the war in Iraq, with an original soundtrack from an Academy Award winner and composer.

The film screening will be followed by a Q&A panel and reception/refreshments with the filmmakers, conscientious objectors, and members of the SFAI community. For more information, go to http://www.socfilm.com.

All proceeds will help make the theatrical release of this compelling film a reality.
