Anti-torture activists in SF on Fourth of July: call for justice and democracy
Act Against Torture descended on the route to San Francisco's Independence Day celebration 4 July 2007 to encourage locals and visitors alike to celebrate July 4th by taking a stand for human rights: to shut the prison at Guantanamo, to restore habeas corpus rights, and to repeal the Military Commissions Act of 2006.

Prior to the re-arrest on the spurious murder charges, several of the 8 were already in jail for refusing to answer Grand Jury questions about Panther activities in the 70's and their connection to the Weather Underground. They were scheduled to be released in two weeks, at the end of the Grand Jury term when they were arrested on the murder charges.
It appears the government is still paranoid about avowed revolutionaries who may be getting more active as the government once again becomes more repressive.
