Technology is always neutral.

Machines benefit everyone equally.

Science is progress, and progress will save humanity - right?

This theory and action class will examine these tenants of Western "civilization" by exploring past and current resistance to industrial systems and the "machine-mentalities" that produce(d) them.

Through reading, discussion, and technology challenging exercises, we will attempt to develop a framework for a liberated, serene, and peaceful tomorrow.

Classes will be held every 2 weeks starting Thursday, July 5th 7-9pm though September 13th

Location: Big Yellow House - email pochovilla [at] yahoo.com for details

what I was trying to say (before the kind freespeech-centric indybay folks deleted my somewhat vague, yet comical post) is, why must we place labels on our beliefs? It only acts to cheapen our ideologies and imply that in order to have certain ideas we have to fit into a particular set group or point of view. Are you a radical or a liberal or a democrat or a republican? It's either one or the other because we need to find a way to categorize you as a non-individual with your own non-unique identity. Are you a neo-luddite or are you an anarcho-primitivist? Please, we need to find a clever label for you or for your argument so that before we approach the table we can apply the appropriate assumptions and preconceptions.

I'm assuming that 'Luddite Uprising 101' will provide some sort of background information on who the luddites were and why the term 'luddite' became a commonly used noun in the english language. I'm assuming there are other historical examples that are similar, and I'm assuming that it's going to relate all of this to present-day abuse of science through technology all for the sake of "the glittering PANOPTICON!" When I read the title of the class, it provided me with an idea of what the topic was. Nothing more, nothing less.

(Also, it's usually a bad thing when you learn about the world around you and what it used to be through the filter of the wikipedia... 'copy of a copy of a copy of a copy')
