JIMBO WALES
Founder, Wikipedia, Wikimedia Foundation and Wikia

When you need information fast, about anything or anyone, where do you turn? It seems flipping through the pages of an Encyclopedia is a thing of the past, as the quirky but clearly computer savvy Jimbo Wales has opened the doors to boundless and up to date encyclopedic information on the Web. Wales is best known for his major role in the founding of the new go-to informational resource, Wikipedia and has recently caught our attention in his headlong battle against Google to promise more transparency and less spam. While these resources allow access to a tremendous amount of information, we must ask ourselves, “How accurate are these posts, how much can we rely on them?” Jimmy Wales will explain his thoughts on the accuracy of Wiki posts, the politics of the Internet, as well as what’s next on his agenda.

INFORUM is a division of The Commonwealth Club by and for people in their 20s and 30s, with a mission to inspire debate around civic issues. We are a connector between ideas, individuals and communities.

Founded in 1903, the Commonwealth Club has played host to a diverse and distinctive array of speakers, from Teddy Roosevelt in 1924 to Erin Brockovich in 2001. Along the way, Martin Luther King, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and Bill Gates have all given landmark speeches at the Club.
