LaborFest's East Bay screening features 4 films from far and near:
"Maquilapolis": The filmmakers gave several women workers in Tijuana video cameras to make a record of their lives, giving the documentary the intimate feel of video diaries.
"My Bicycle (Bisikletim)": In this documentary, we learn about the living conditions and stories of temporary workers from a 13 years old boy from Turkey. He comes to Eskisehir –one of the big cities of Turkey every spring to work as a temporary beet worker.
"No Te Rajes": The peaceful civil disobedience movement took over the heart of Mexico City for 49 days in 2006. This film provides background and context for the current wave of social movements in Mexico.
"Estamos Aqui":The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) initiated a one-day strike at all University of California campuses in April of 2005. At UC Santa Cruz, students and workers physically shut down the campus for hours as thousands blocked the two entrances. This film gives an inside look at this historic events.
