Please join us for the FIRST Annual Sacramento Dyke March
For the first time in its history, Sacramento’s LGBT Pride Week events will include a Dyke March. All lesbian- and women-supportive organizations and individuals are invited to participate.
The First Annual Sacramento Dyke March will begin with a kick-off rally at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 15, at the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center, 1927 L Street in Midtown Sacramento. The group will march from the Center to the State Capitol for a brief program featuring Yolo County Clerk-Recorder Freddie Oakley, who has supported equality for LGBT people by issuing Certificates of Inequality to same-sex couples who apply for marriage licenses; Jean Adams, field organizer for Equality California; and a performance by True Colors Women’s Chorus.
“We see this march as a way of bringing together the many active and diverse groups that make up Sacramento’s women’s community in a unifying and joyous event,” said Bonnie Osborn, a member of the march organizing committee. “As with any event where you get lots of women together, we think the Dyke March will be empowering, a little bit boisterous and a lot of fun.”
The Dyke March is being organized by members of Women On Wednesdays, or WOW, a facilitated discussion group that meets weekly at the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center, along with representatives from other community organizations. Call 916-442-0185, Ext. 107, for more information.
