Erin Gruwell, teacher and author of The Freedom Writer’s Diary is coming to San Mateo. Come and hear in person the teacher who inspired 150 teens from the Long Beach area to use writing to change themselves and the world around them after the1993LosAngelesriots. The critically acclaimed movie Freedom Writers is based on her experiences. The movie, rated PG-13, was released on DVD on April16.
Erin Gruwell will be speaking on Friday, June 1, 7:30pm at the Bayside Performing Arts Center, 2025 Kehoe Avenue, San Mateo, CA. Ms. Gruwell will share her wisdom and insights on how we can help students achieve goals that were believed to be unattainable. There will be a book signing immediately following the event.
Mills-Peninsula Health Services, Bay Area Parent, Bay Meadows Land Co. and the San Mateo-Foster City School District are major sponsors for this event. Proceeds to benefit San Mateo-Foster City School District Teacher Diversity Training, which teaches successful strategies for working with diverse student populations.
