"The politics of water - as this brilliant anthology makes clear—are the politics of human survival. Read this, and believe me, you'll never flush with the same equanimity again."—Mike Davis, author of City of Quartz and Dead Cities
Join us for the Bay Area release of Dam Nation, a new book by authors Cleo Woelfle-Erskine, Laura Allen, and July Oskar Cole about water movements and river restoration worldwide. Dam Nation combines environmental victories in the sustainable-use movement with hands-on, participatory options for country and city dwellers. Through their own experiments with alternative water systems and thousands of hours of interviews with innovators from around the world, the authors create a comprehensive plan for re-using household water, constructing miniature wetlands, and improving our communities' physical and political healths.
This release event will include:
*Slide show featuring anti-dam struggles, ecological sanitation, and river restoration projects
*Discussion of local restoration work and regional initiatives
*The secrets of guerrilla greywater plumbing
*Special showing of Demise of Dam Nation—a compilation of cinematic dam failures and catastrophes.
