Watsonville Students Walk Out
PVHS students walked out today in Watsonville to demand justice for migrant people
Pajaro Valley High School students -- approximately 500 of them -- walked out today from school to demand justice for migrant people and a stop to the raids.
One sign read, "Stop the raids," while they chanted "si se puede" all along Main St.
One minimal fight broke out between two students, to which KSBW 8 cameraman responded by shoving the crowd to obviously take a good shot of the "juicy story." One student claimed he tried to cover the camera from filming the fight, and the cameraman pushed him and told him he would "sue him" if he touched his camera.
I confronted the KSBW 8 reporter and cameraman in the plaza after the students had left, telling them it was extremely unprofessional to push students. The reporter answered that they were "punk ass motherfuckers" and the cameraman said they deserved to be pushed. The cameraman proceeded to tell me "the students negatively represented you" and that "when white people saw that on TV they would have a negative response to it."
This is what corporate media reporters think of students and the community in general. Fair and balanced? Bullshit.
