From "Obstacles to Peace" to "Faces of Hope" in Palestine and
Israel
Noted anthropologist and activist Jeff Halper will share his
outstanding ability to help people understand both the
complexities and the simple truths of the conflicts that engulf Palestinians and Israelis. What are the competing interests, and where is the common ground? Who is en-flaming tensions and who are the peacemakers? What are they doing and how can we help? And where is the United States in all of this?
Jeff Halper and ICAHD have published three editions of
Obstacles to Peace, their book which re-frames the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict, complete with the clearest maps of the land and the shifting political sands. The American Friends Service Committee Middle East Peace Program campaign, Faces of Hope, supports nonviolent resistance and refusal (of armed struggle) in Israel and Palestine. The inspiration for the evening is a combination of the work being done on the ground there, and the need for people in the U.S. to recognize that the potential for peace exists, and that despite obstacles, hope remains.
Produced by the Faces of Hope campaign of the American Friends
Service Committee (Pacific Mountain Region) Middle East Peace Program and co-sponsored by War Resisters League-West and Declaration of Peace.
$10 donation requested. No one turned away.
