Chevron protest

by tristan
Monday morning, 3/19, protest at Chevron's world headquarters in San Ramon CA.

We gathered at 7:00 am to protest Chevron's pollution, the war on Iraq and theft of Iraq'soil. The group was small but theatrical and energetic long before the sun came up. Lockdowns blocked the main entrance. There was a traffic jam but workers got in the back since we were low on people. There were no arrests and we left at 11:00 with all of our stuff. "We'll be back."

"Private Property" for us but Iraq's oil may soon belong to Chevron. Actually they have been selling Iraqi oil for at least 10 years, even under Saddam but they are tired of buying it first and just want to own it.

Chevron CEOs and such try to win tug-o-war with the people. Buyinf individuals off worked at times but the people won in the end when enough folks realized that Chevron was going to win.

This is a crappy photo of a photo I took three years ago at a similar protest against Chevron and War in San Ramon. On that day in 2003 there seemed to be strong support for bush and the war in Iraq and even large gas guzzling vehicles. This counter protest gathered across the street to shout insults at us. In 2007 Bush is not popular, the war is lost and seen as a bad idea and not one person gathered to protest our demonstration. Although there were a few shouted insults from cars there were far more supportive honks and shouts of encouragement. Thigs have changed and will soon change more.
