Uhuru!
This is an urgent call for everyone to phone in and email to the
Sierra Leone embassy in Washington DC to protest the arrest and
political harassment of Chernoh Alpha M. Bah, leader of the Africanist
Movement in Sierra Leone and West Africa, and two of his comrades.
Many people remember Chernoh from his U.S.-wide tour one year ago with
the theme of "Blood Diamonds, Child Soldiers and the Worldwide
Struggle for African Liberation."
Today Chernoh and two others were stopped while driving in Freetown,
Sierra Leone, by two policewomen who said that the three had failed to
stop for police earlier in the day. They were detained for four hours
and the drivers license of the driver was confiscated. The three were
charged with "Defying a police officer" and "Driving without paying
attention." They are not currently being held but the police have told
them they must come to the police station at 10 am to "discuss certain
questions," before a court hearing at 2 pm. The charges are completely
false.
Call and email tonight and tomorrow to the Ambassador of the Sierra
Leone embassy in the U.S. By the time they come in in the morning they
should Leave messages on the voicemail of the ambassador to:
1. Stop the political harassment of Chernoh Alpha M. Bah and his
comrades. Chernoh is being harassed because he is leader of the
Africanist Movement, a mass popular movement of African workers based
in many countries of West Africa and struggling for the liberation of
African people.
2. People around the U.S. and the world know Chernoh, as a fighter for
justice for African people. All eyes are on the government of Sierra
Leone.
3. Drop all the charges against Chernoh and the others and do not let
anything happen to them. Do not arrest or detain them.
4. Do not harm or continue to harass Chernoh in any way. Restore his
rights.
