Joe R. McBride, UC Berkeley Forest Professor, will speak about the ecological significance of the Memorial Oak Grove in Strawberry Canyon.
The oak grove is currently threated by a UC Regents plan to build an athletic training facility on the site. The plan has been challenged by an ongoing tree-sit and four pending lawsuits, to be heard this summer. For more information, visit http://www.saveoaks.com.
This event is part of an ongoing lecture series, every Wednesday at 5 pm....
Ignacio Chapela invites you:
Please join me
on an
Academic Walk
for no credit
Walk, Talk, Buck the Fence:
What's at stake in the Ecology
of Berkeley's Strawberry Canyon
with expert guests Gray Brechin, Robert Hass, Brock Dolman, Gary-Paul
Nabhan, Dan Siegel, Joe McBride and more.
Every Wednesday, at 5 pm, we will engage in public surveys of the
perimeter of the wildscapes at stake in the next proposed steps for
the filling of the Canyon by the UC-LBL Rad-Labs, and now British
Petroleum.
Bring weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, maybe some food,
and share this walk, while you still can, with experts in:
History, Biotech, Politics, Energy, Privatization of Public Spaces
and Public Discourse, Ecology, Wildlife, Urbanization, Poetry and
Music.
Meet and start at Memorial Grove, 5 pm Wednesdays. Memorial Grove is
also known as "The Oaks", located by the International House at
Piedmont and Bancroft, in Berkeley. Additional walks on selected
Sundays.
