WILLIAM T. VOLLMANN
reading & booksigning for "Poor People"
Wednesday, March 14 at 7:00 pm
In "Rising Up and Rising Down," William T. Vollmann conducted an all-out investigation into violence. Now, in the tradition of James Agee's "Let Us Now Praise Famous Men," Vollmann's new book struggles to confront poverty in all its hopelessness and brutality, its pride and abject fear, its fierce misery, and its quiet resignation. "Poor People" allows the poor to speak for themselves, explaining the causes and consequences of their impoverishment in human terms.
William T. Vollmann is the author of several works of fiction and non-fiction, including "Rising Up and Rising Down," a finalist for the 2003 National Book Critics Circle Award, and "Europe Central," which won the 2005 National Book Award. No other writer has appeared more often at The Booksmith as has this acclaimed California author.
This Booksmith sponsored event will take place at The Booksmith (1644 Haight Street in San Francisco). For further information, call 415-863-8688 or visit http://www.booksmith.com If you can't attend this event and would like to order a signed copy of the author's new book, please email or phone our store.
