POWER TRIP
Presented by the Sierra Club of Northern Alameda County

American Energy Systems Corporation, a massive, global power company, purchased the privitized electricity distribution company in Tbilisi, capital of the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. The manager of the giant energy corporation must now train the formerly communist populace to pay for their electricity -- now that they have become customers of electricity. Amidst hot tempers and high drama, the manager balances his love for the Georgian people with the hardships that the company creates for them as they struggle to build a nation from the rubble of Soviet collapse. This captivating documentary tells the story of the chaotic post-Soviet transition of Georgia as it negotiates its way through corruption, assissinations, riots, clashes, and electrical disconnections and blackouts.

Before and after the films, everyone's invited to our Humanist Tea House
