Please support marriage equality by participating in tomorrow’s Valentine's Day marriage counter action at the Santa Cruz County Clerk's office, located at 701 Ocean Street in Santa Cruz at 12:00 p.m. Organized by ACLU-Slugs & Marriage Equality USA, we are trying to engage supporters from all walks of life, so that our friends, neighbors and elected officials know that fairness and equality, particularly marriage equality, is important to our entire community.
Same-sex couples who are participating as marriage applicants are asked to clearly identify themselves as such to the County Clerk's staff as you request a marriage license with the understanding that you will be turned away. THIS IS NOT AN ADVERSARIAL EVENT; we will not be arguing, raising our voices or making a scene. This event is about solemnly protesting state-sanctioned discrimination, by means of standing in line, requesting something that we really want, and then being turned away, not because the County Clerk's staff necessarily wants to, but because they have to. It is likely that there will be a media presence, as we have notified the press.
We need all of you to help put warm, human faces on this issue and raise the consciousness of Santa Cruz County so that we can help make marriage equality a reality, first in California and then throughout the rest of the nation in order to protect our families, our quality of life, and our futures.
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
