A delegation including several individuals from the Bay Area visited Nicaragua just after the Presidential election this past November. The purpose of their trip, sponsored by Jubilee USA and Witness for Peace, was to learn about the effects of the International Monetary Fund’s structural adjustment programs on the country’s efforts to overcome poverty. The group met with NGOs, heard from community groups, and saw first hand what the policies actually mean for the people of Nicaragua. Come hear about their experiences, learn what the new President Daniel Ortega is contending with, and find out about the Sabbath Year activities that you can participate in.
