WE NEED SPEAKERS TO JOIN OUR MOVEMENT - PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN COME
FEB 15TH @ SSU!!!!!!!!! (Please forward this email to anyone who you
believe may be interested)
Hello everyone!
My name is Camelia and some of you may remember me from Last Springs
Student day of Resistance, Action and Awareness at Sonoma State University
(or more recently at the World Can't Wait event at SSU).
For those who may not be aware, a group of students from SSU and SRJC are
working frantically to organize an anti-war event for the week of Feb 12th
on SSU campus (next week!!) The short notice is not due to poor planning,
but a challenge put forth by other college campuses nation wide who are
planning similar events.
At Sonoma State, we are planning a week long CAMP - IN, a peaceful
demonstration by SSU students to show our solidarity with other anti-war
efforts taking place around the world. From Monday February 12th through
Thursday the 15th, we will camp out on the Sonoma State campus to make a
statement, END THE WAR - NOT ONE MORE LIFE SHOULD BE LOST!
The week's events will be closed with a campus wide STRIKE on February
15th (with a rally at 12pm and 5pm), a call for students to band together,
DON'T GO TO CLASS, DON'T GOT TO WORK to protest a shameful war based on
lies, where countless innocent people are losing their lives daily. It is
an opportunity for students and community members alike to stand up and
use their voices to say we will not be lied to any longer, we will not
support war, or an administration who chooses to sacrifice the lives of
our youth in seemingly never ending conflicts overseas.
I WANT TO INVITE ALL OF YOU to come to our final meeting this Sunday at
Sonoma State. Because of the spontaneous nature of this event, we have not
had much time to plan out speakers. We need your support.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR SPEAKERS AND PEOPLE/ORGS TO FACILITATE TEACH-INS
(either during the week days Feb 12-14th, or the day of the strike).
Some of you made amazingly passionate speeches at last years event, I
would love to have you come this year!!!
We will be holding the meeting from 8-9pm on the first floor of the
library Sunday night. (for those unfamiliar to the campus, it is located
near Charlie Browns Cafe, on the bottom floor of the library) It will be
located in the first, large meeting room just to the left as you enter the
first floor. The entrance is just beyond the security sensors and before
the information desk. If the room is occupied by another group for some
reason, let's meet at the large desks in the middle of the first floor.
YOU WON'T MISS US!
This event has been endorsed by Howard Zinn and we have gained the support
of the SSU faculty. All we need now is the support of leading anti war
activists from our community to support our action. With your help I know
it will happen!!
Hope to hear from you soon, and see everyone at the meeting!
In peace and solidarity,
Camelia
