Cal_OSHA investigation reports revealed that in March 2006, Romic worker Froilan Chan-Liongco sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns while welding a tank at the Romic facility. Mr. Chan-Liongco did not receive appropriate medical treatment for 6 hours, and Romic management refused to call 911. Cal-OSHA has released final enforcements on Romic totaling $32,000 and is in negotiating with Romic, who has filed an appeal. Outraged community members do not feel the fines and violations are enough, and are demanding justice for Froilan Chan-Liongco.
Unfortunately, Froilan Chan-Liongco is no the first employee that was injured on the Romic facility. In 1995, Rodrigo Cruz was permanently brain-damaged while cleaning sludge. As a result of that incident, Cal-OSHA fined Romic maximum fines of $106,000. In May of 2004, Patrick Samson was burned on the back of his legs and on his left arm while a tank was being cleaned.
WE DEMAND THAT Cal-OSHA
- Fine Romic maximum penalties!
- Charge Romic with Willful violations!
- SHUT DOWN ROMIC NOW!
