The Sandinista Return to Power

A report by
Walter Solórzano and Patricia Tollefson

The recent elections in Nicaragua brought about the return of Sandinista leader and former president Daniel Ortega. Even before the elections, U.S. embassy personnel were blatantly trying to influence the outcome by attempting to intimidate the Nicaraguan population.

Is further U.S. intervention and meddling in Nicaraguan affairs in the offing? And what is the Sandinista program now, after being out of power for more than fifteen years?

Walter Solórzano is a native Nicaraguan who was in the country when the Sandinista revolution first took place. He recently returned for the first time in nineteen years and was there during the recent elections. Patricia Tollefson is a long-time activist and teacher and a member of PPJC's Board of Directors. She visited Nicaragua in December.
