CounterPULSE Presents:
Crying in Public and Sally:MIA
Two World Premiers by Winter Artists in Residence
Monique Jenkinson, Krista DeNio & Ryan Eggensperger
February 8-11, 2007
The CounterPULSE Artist in Residence Program presents two world premiers by artists who use movement theater to push the boundaries of publicly-acceptable behavior, and to examine the possibilities of post-human consciousness. Monique Jenkinson, whose alter-ego Fauxnique has performed on stages from Trannyshack to Yerba Buena, joins recently-returned Bay Area dance favorite Krista DeNio in an evening of sharp, satirical and surreal social critique.
Crying in Public
by Monique Jenkinson
Inappropriate displays of feminine emotion in a besotted blend of witty theater, gutsy dancing and ruined makeup.
Conceived, written and performed by Monique Jenkinson
Directed by Chris Black
“Conceptually brilliant from start to finish”—Bay Area Reporter
“It was enough to make a girl want to revisit her Susan Sontag.” – SF Chronicle
Sally: MIA
by Krista DeNio & Ryan Eggensperger
A movement theater odyssey, through the cyber-scape of the world's first automated woman.
Co-created by Krista DeNio and Ryan Eggensperger
Directed by Susannah Martin
Choreography by Krista DeNio
Lighting Design by Allen Willner
Sound Design by Robert Quillen Camp
Performers: Krista DeNio, Carolyn Doyle, Ryan Eggensperger, Helen Sage Howard, Cammie Kelly, Amy "Ray" Kingwill, Mica Miro
“a dazzling display of comedy and physical theater.”—SF Weekly
