Hello everyone,
As you know, this is a busy week for peace actions. Activists have been trying for several days to get Congresswoman Doris Matsui to make a public commitment to stop funding and otherwise supporting the U.S. occupation of Iraq. Many people have staged sit-ins in the lobby of Matsui's Sacramento office this week. Thus far, the effort has been futile: Matsui hasn't responded at all.
Therefore, a direct action will be held this Friday, from 3pm to 5pm, in the form of a peaceful and lawful protest IN FRONT OF CONGRESSWOMAN MATSUI'S SACRAMENTO HOME. If her constituents can't get her attention at her office, then maybe she'll pay attention when we visit her home!
Although Matsui will probably be in D.C., that's fine. The important thing is that the symbolic effect of protesting in front of Congresswoman Matsui's home will generate public interest. It will create an opportunity for us to further publicize our expectation and insistence that she oppose any more funding or escalation of the Iraq occupation. We also need to do this because her silence and prior acquiescence has been completely unacceptable! Whether she's home or not, you can bet that she'll hear about our visit and our reasons for it!
So please join us this Friday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm in front of Doris Matsui's home.
Please bring signs, etc.
And remember that Friday's event is IN ADDITION TO the large peace demonstration that will occur at 16th & Broadway this Saturday from 3:30 to 6pm.
We look forward to seeing you there!
