The LGBT Oakland Inaugural Gala will be a wonderful and fun-filled celebration as well as
an historical event. This is the first time in Oakland's history that the official
program of events for a mayoral inauguration includes the LGBT community. Our community,
the third largest in the country, is distinguished by a great number of business leaders,
professionals, community service leaders, artists and musicians, not to mention moms,
dads, teens, seniors, and LGBT families. Traditionally, Oakland communities have been
identified primarily by geographic neighborhoods and racial or ethnic groups within those
neighborhoods. The inclusion of this event in the kick-off of the Mayor Dellum's term
signals an understanding and acknowledgment of the invaluable political, professional,
financial and cultural leadership that our vibrant LGBT community contributes to the rich
diversity of the City of Oakland.
