Santa Cruz Fair Garbage Rates Petition
The Santa Cruz Fair Garbage Rates petition seeks to make garbage rates in the City of Santa Cruz, CA., equitable, by changing the way by which a resident is charged for garbage pickup from a set, monthly rate to a pay-only-when-you-put-out-the-garbage rate.
PETITION TO THE COUNCIL MEMBERS AND TO THE MANAGER
OF THE CITY OF SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA.
We want you to restucture the way in which we are charged for refuse pick-up, i.e., for the collection of the contents of the brown/garbage, blue/recycling, and green/plant-matter containers.
Currently, we pay a set monthly fee for the collection of the contents of these containers.
We want you, the City Council of the City of Santa Cruz, California to restructure the fee so that we are only charged for the containers which we put out on the street for collection.
In so doing, the collection fee will be fairer, i.e., we will not be paying if we do not put out a container; we will only be paying when we do put out a container. This will mean that we are not, in essence, paying for the collection of other people's garbage.
We believe the city will realize that there will be fewer stops for the workers and trucks to make since it stands to reason that most people will hereinafter put out full or fuller containers to save money for themselves, and we believe that people will recyle more in order to eliminate having to put out their brown/garbage containers as often as they had been putting them out.
